Minnesota Timberwolves reportedly want to trade D’Angelo Russell

The Minnesota Timberwolves reached the postseason for the first time since 2018 this season, but big changes could be in store. According to Marc Stein, rival teams expect D’Angelo Russell to trade.

The insider writes this in his newsletter Substack. Accordingly, the future of the 26-year-old is “uncertain” after he did not make a good impression in six games against the Memphis Grizzlies. Russell averaged just 12 points at 33.3 percent from the field in the second playoff series of his career.

Other teams now reckon Minnesota will try to trade Russell, even though he’s very good friends with franchise player Karl-Anthony Towns. Russell only came in in a February 2020 trade for Andrew Wiggins and two future draft picks (it became Jonathan Kuminga and Miles McBride) from the Golden State Warriors.

In the regular season, the point guard had his share of the best Wolves season in years. D-Lo averaged 18 points and 7 assists over 65 games, but he couldn’t match those performances in the postseason.

Russell will earn $31.4 million next season before becoming an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2023.
