Manchester United: Carragher calls for sale of superstar Cristiano Ronaldo – Football

Hard demand from Jamie Carragher (44)!

The Liverpool legend (737 competitive games in 17 years for the Reds) is urging new Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag (52) to make a mark and sell superstar Cristiano Ronaldo (37) this summer.

Speaking on Gary Neville’s (47) YouTube channel The Overlap, Carragher said: “I’m convinced he has to do this to Ronaldo, whether he’s allowed to or not. I kept saying that all season: It wasn’t a good signing.”

And further: “Manchester United can’t go into next season with a centre-forward who turns 38, even if he’s scoring goals, that’s not right for Man United.”

The former England international (38 caps) is also thinking of Liverpool coach Jürgen Klopp (54) and City coach Pep Guardiola (51).

Carragher: “When Pep came to Man City he just said, ‘Joe Hart, no’. And everyone was like, ‘Wow, that’s the England goalkeeper, he was a great player for City, but it was like, ‘No, you’re not here’. When Klopp came to Liverpool they had brought in players under Brendan Rodgers in the summer. I think Benteke was £35m-40m, he was worth a few pounds but Klopp said: ‘You’re not for me, get out. It was like this big, bold decision that makes everyone sit up and take notice.”

After a disastrous season that ended in sixth place for Man United, the Red Devils are looking forward to a fresh start with big changes under ten Hag (coming from Ajax Amsterdam), who succeeds Ralf Rangnick (63).

Recently, Ronaldo has been linked to a change again and again because the Red Devils could not qualify for the Champions League. But now it looks like he will fulfill his contract, which runs until 2023.

And probably also because of Erik ten Hag. The Dutchman recently said he can’t wait to work with Ronaldo, calling him a ‘true winner and a great player’.

But Carragher has major concerns if United hold on to the five-time world footballer: “Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the greatest players of all time. Ronaldo is a million times better than I could ever be, I couldn’t tie his shoes but I’m not saying that to be disrespectful to him, he’s amazing. But Ronaldo has never played in such a bad team. Ronaldo would be a big problem for Manchester United next season if he didn’t play every week.”

In purely sporting terms, however, Ronaldo has once again impressed this season: since his surprising return in the summer, CR7 has scored a strong 24 goals in 37 competitive games.
