Jerusalem hopes for relaxation | tachles

But one is still waiting for an apology from Moscow.

Politicians in Jerusalem are clearly trying to ease the tense atmosphere between Israel and Russia and to normalize relations. This mood, which is detrimental to the future of the bilateral relationship between the two states, came about after Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said, among other things, nothing more and nothing less that the worst Israeli anti-Semites were Jews, and that Hitler also had Jewish blood. Anatoly Viktorov, the Russian ambassador to Israel, was then asked for a “clarification talk” at the Israeli Foreign Ministry on Monday. No details were given by either side about the content of the conversation. Apparently, both Jerusalem and Moscow are interested in “letting off steam” behind the scenes. Nevertheless, after the angry reactions of some politicians, the Israelis can and will settle for nothing less than an apology from Moscow for the “misunderstood” statements made by their foreign minister.
