The exclusion of Russian clubs from the various European cups will benefit many countries which will take advantage of UEFA sanctions to facilitate their European journey.
UEFA has decided to strike very hard against Russia by purely and simply excluding Russian teams from its competitions for the 2022-2023 season. The Champions League is obviously concerned, as are the Europa League, the Europa League Conference, the Women’s Champions League but also the Youth League. Unfortunately for France, this decision by UEFA has no impact on clubs in France, which derive no benefit from it. On the other hand, other countries will be favored during their qualification for Europe.
Scotland and Turkey benefit, Serbia well served
As far as the Champions League is concerned, the team that wins the Scottish championship will inherit the Russian place and will be directly qualified for the next group stage of the Big Ears Cup. Trabzonspor, just crowned champion of Turkey will only have one more round to pass to join the pools against two before.
But it is Serbia that finds itself garnished by this decision of UEFA. Indeed, the winner of the Serbian Cup, which generally goes through a second qualifying round for the Europa League Conference, will find itself directly in the 3rd round of the Europa League.
