The film of the match I The classification

It was an important game for both teams. Leeds had to take points in for their maintenance operation. The Blues had to validate their 3rd place a little more and gain confidence before the Cup final against Liverpool. And it was Chelsea who got the better of their opponent. The beautiful atmosphere of the Elland Road at the start of the match did not last. Following a good job by Reece James on the right side, Mason Mount put a hell of a chill on Leeds supporters following a sublime right-hand roll in the top corner (4th).

Jesse Marsch’s men were aggressive in the first half. A little too obviously. Daniel James received a logical red card following a killer tackle on the ankle from Mateo Kovacic (24th). The Croatian did not recover his place on the field and gave way to Ruben Loftus-Cheek (30th) under the whistles of the public. Leeds could even have finished at 9 but Anthony Taylor was lenient on a very dangerous tackle from Kalvin Phillips on Christian Pulisic (43rd).

Lukaku was everywhere

Returning from the locker room, Chelsea did not give up. Christian Pulisic concluded a sublime collective action to make the break (55th). The party didn’t stop there on the Blues side. Very voluntary this evening, Romelu Lukaku went there with his goal at the end of the match. After a goal disallowed for offside (30th) and several missed opportunities (34th, 50th, 65th, and 80th), the Belgian took advantage of a serve from Ziyech to sink Leeds.

With this success, Chelsea are more than ever 3rd in the Premier League and are getting closer to direct qualification for the Champions League. The Blues regained victory a few days before the Cup, the last dating back to April 24 (1-0 against West Ham). Only downside of the evening, the possible absence of Mateo Kovacic for the end of the season. On the other hand for Leeds, the Peacocks remain in 18th place two days from the end. The maintenance will be played against Brighton and Brentford.
