European Challenge – Final: premature exit of Gabin Villière, hit in an ankle

This may be a blow for Toulon international winger Gabin Villière. This Friday evening, he left prematurely in the 30th minute of the European Challenge final, between the RCT and Lyon, suffering from left ankle.

Lying for a long time on the lawn of the Orange Vélodrome in Marseille in the 13th minute, in the hands of the physiotherapist of the Var club, he ended up giving up his place. Villière (26, 12 caps) was replaced by Fijian Jiuta Wainiqolo.

According to images from the broadcaster, he then settled on the bench, his ankle surrounded by an ice pack.

The former septiste is an essential player of the RCT with whom he played ten Top 14 matches, all as a starter (2 tries), and five in Challenge (4 tries). Villière had been spared last week during the victory over Pau (37-20) in the league.

This injury could compromise his end of the season with his Toulon club, still in the race for the final stages in the Top 14. But also with the XV of France, since the Tricolores are playing a two-game tour in Japan in July.
