Daniels Vilciņš ranks 13th in the World Junior Cup shooting

On Wednesday in the German city of Zool, the athletes of the Latvian shooting team started participating in the World Junior Cup shooting with the start of shooting with a pneumatic pistol (according to the Latvian Shooting Federation (LŠF)).

Daniels Vilciņš was the first to take the starting line, finishing in 13th place with 570 points. 573 points had to be accumulated to reach the finals and the opportunity to compete for medals. The winner was Indian athlete Shiva Narval.

In the junior competition Rūta Leila Spriņģe 563 points and took the 16th place, Elīzas Rasiņa 561 points and 18th place, Sanija Didže 554 points and 29th place. Athletes with 565 points were shot in the final eight. The athlete from India – Palakai Palakai – also won a gold medal for juniors.

In total, Indian athletes won seven medals out of 12 winning places on the first day of the competition.

In the morning of May 12, Daniels Vilciņš and Rūta Leila Spriņģis will start in a mixed doubles shooting with a pneumatic pistol. In the late afternoon, the juniors start a team exercise in shooting with a pneumatic pistol.

The Latvian Shooting Federation combines bullet, business and practical, as well as hunting / stand shooting sections. Shooting is a traditional sport. It has been one of nine sports included in the first relaunched Olympic Games in Athens in 1896.

The success of Latvian athletes in the sport of shooting was already marked at the 1912 Olympic Games in Stockholm, where Latvian athlete Haralds Blaus won bronze medals in clay pigeons when he started as a member of the Russian Empire at that time. Olympic champion Afanasiy Kuzmin is one of two Olympians in the world to take part in nine Olympic Games.
