Berlin Alba Berlin has clearly underpinned its ambitions to defend its title in the Basketball Bundesliga. In the first play-off game of the quarter-finals against Brose Bamberg, the Berliners won clearly and presented themselves in brilliant form, especially offensively.
Defending champion Alba Berlin has underpinned its role as favorite in the basketball Bundesliga and clearly won the first play-off duel with old rival Brose Bamberg. The winner of the main round from the capital won on Friday evening with 114:89 (61:45) and showed an excellent offensive performance.
In the series in best-of-five mode, the Berliners lead 1-0. Already on Sunday (6 p.m.) Alba can follow up in front of her own audience, only then does the series go to Franconia. Whoever wins three games first goes into the semi-finals.
The champion’s best throwers were Johannes Thiemann (19 points) and Jaleen Smith (16). Bamberg’s defense acted much too laxly for long stretches, the game, which resembled an offensive spectacle, was almost decided in the third quarter. Omar Prewitt scored 17 points for the guests. Alba has already celebrated the twelfth league win in a row. “It was an embarrassing first half. It was disrespectful. We have to show that we deserve to play in these playoffs,” said Bamberg coach Oren Amiel at Magentasport.

Telekom Baskets Bonn had a much harder time, winning their first home game against the Hamburg Towers only after overtime with 100:98 (91:91, 41:42). The outstanding man of the game was Peter Jackson-Cartwright with 36 points. However, the match winner was Javontae Hawkins, who decided the game with a three point one second before the end – he had previously equalized in regular time.
