‘Belgian top club pushes, Rabbi Matondo most expensive transfer ever at Cercle’ Football24

One of the revelations of the current season was without doubt Rabbi Matondo, the express train of Cercle Brugge. But will he still be playing there next year?

In any case, the interest is high. It is known from the Belgian top clubs that KRC Genk is sniffing at the Welshman and Antwerp is also showing concrete interest. Everything indicates that the 21-year-old attacker is ready for a step higher, but that is not counting Cercle Brugge.

Because Matondo is rented by green-black from Schalke 04 with purchase option. And even though it amounts to no less than three million euros, Cercle Brugge still wants to go for it. “We are trying to convince Rabbi that it is best for him to stay with Cercle for a while,” said sporting director Carlos Avina.

“He knows our proposal, but of course there are limits,” continues Avina. “A lot will depend on what he wants,” says Cercle Brugge’s website. The newspapaer knows that if he stays with the Bruggelingen, the goal-getter will be the most expensive transfer ever from the Association.

De interesse is alleszins groot. Van de Belgische topclubs is geweten dat KRC Genk aan de Welshman snuffelt en ook Antwerp toont concrete belangstelling. Alles wijst erop dat de 21-jarige aanvaller klaar is voor een stap hogerop, maar dat is buiten Cercle Brugge gerekend.

Want Matondo wordt door groen-zwart gehuurd van Schalke 04 mét aankoopoptie. En ook al bedraagt die maar liefst drie miljoen euro, Cercle Brugge wil er toch voor gaan. “We proberen Rabbi te overtuigen dat het best is voor hem om nog even bij Cercle te blijven”, aldus sportief directeur Carlos Avina.

“Hij kent ons voorstel, maar er zijn natuurlijk ­limieten”, vervolgt Avina. “Veel zal afhangen van wat hij zelf wil”, klinkt het op de website van Cercle Brugge. Het Nieuwsblad weet dat als hij bij de Bruggelingen blijft, de goalgetter de duurste transfer ooit wordt van de Vereniging.
