Baseball – successful start of the Schremser Beers season

The season opener for the Schrems baseball team took place on Labor Day. Venue for the first two games was the new sports facility of the Schwechat Blue Bats. The Beers’ expectations were somewhat subdued without pre-season games. On the other hand, there was great joy to have founding member Michael Preißl and Thomas Wurz back in the squad after a long break. Both are great reinforcements, both offensively and defensively.

At the start against Schwechat, Dominik Bauer was nominated as a pitcher by manager Hannes Filler. The training performances he has shown so far have been promising and he has lived up to expectations right from the start. Numerous walks gave the Waldviertel a lead right at the start, which they were not to lose over the course of the game.

As the game progressed, the Schremser bats also woke up from hibernation, numerous hits crowned a solid performance, and even a downpour at the end of the game couldn’t change anything at the end. Offensive highlight: a powerful three-run home run by Daniel Bauer.

Effektives Pitching, explosive Offensive

After a short break and finally dry weather, the Beers started game two against the Metrostars. Experienced Daniel Spazier took over the throwing hill for the granite townspeople. The partly young and inexperienced Metrostars farm team could hardly counter his controlled throws.

Offensively it was very successful right from the start, ten runs were scored in the first. So this game was already decided in the early stages. The Beers didn’t give up and after five innings brought in a sovereign victory. Offensive highlight: a three-run home run by manager Hannes Filler.

A very satisfactory start to the season for the Beers in Schwechat, who knew how to impress with an almost flawless defense, effective pitching, aggressive base running and an explosive offensive. With the two victories, you are initially at the top of the table, which you want to defend in two weeks on the next matchday in Vienna.
