ATP – Madrid > Rafael Nadal: “What I have on my foot is chronic and incurable”

Suffering from Mueller-Weiss syndrome since the beginning of his career, a degenerative disease affecting the navicular bone of the bones of the foot, Rafael Nadal once again returned to this pathology which prevents him from walking properly after some of his matches, like this Thursday after his victory against David Goffin.

Arrived limping at the post-match press conference, the journalists present therefore asked him if this was worrying. “No worries (smile). When I play, my foot hurts sometimes. If you saw me every day, you wouldn’t be worried. I always have foot pain, especially after playing a three-hour game or after a long practice. At the end, I limp a little. What I have on my foot is chronic and incurable. It’s part of my life. In the short term, I think, physically, it’s fine. For my foot, it has to adapt to the competition and the stress that a match like today causes. So it’s fine, even if it could be more complicated tomorrow. I can wake up with more worries. We have to accept it and deal with it. »
