another tennis player who analyzes getting off Wimbledon

The controversy continues and seems to have no end. A month ago, Wimbledon announced the Prohibition of tennis players from Russia and Belarus in their competition, due to the invasion of Ukraine. Then came the disapproval of the ATP y WTA. As a last resort, the men’s and women’s tennis associations jointly decided that the British major does not award ranking pointswith the aim of not harming tennis players from the aforementioned countries who cannot participate.

More recently, the possibility of reducing prizes for players is also being analyzed. The Italian Fabio FogniniNo. 51 in the ranking, won on his debut in Roland Garros (in three sets against the Australian Alexei Popyrin) and, true to his style, he did not want to remain silent on the topic of the moment: “It is rumored and I have also heard that they may reduce the prize money. If this happens, taking into account that I don’t get along very well with grass, in those two weeks I will be able to take my family to Formentera (a Spanish island)”.

The British Cameron NorrieN°11, do not agree with the decision and he thinks that many players will not say present: “Wimbledon is still a special event, but I think there will be a lot of casualties. Especially those who don’t care too much about money.”

The expectation is still latent. Less and less to go before Wimbledon begins (June 27 – July 10). However, it is still early to know what will happen to the most traditional tournament. There is one certainty: this tournament will go down in history as one of the most controversial in the history of tennis.

Thus, the situation is not positive for the legendary London Grand Slam. If there is no going back to the veto, it will be a particular tournament, with casualties and moves of all kinds…
