Salvadoran surfer Bryan Pérez fell to John John Florence (Hawaii) in the round of 16 of the Surf City El Salvador Pro 2024 and said goodbye to the prestigious competition. In the close duel, Pérez obtained a score of 13.00 units, but the Hawaiian surpassed him with 13.26.

Pérez had surpassed the Brazilian Ítalo Ferreira, the first Olympic surfing medalist in history in Tokyo 2020, however he could not advance to the quarterfinals. This was Pérez’s first official competition after overcoming his right knee injury.

Those classified for the quarterfinals were Crosby Colapinto (United States), Joao Chianca, Gabriel Medina and Yago Dora (Brazil), Jack Robinson (Australia), Mathew McGillivray and Jordy Smith (South Africa).

Pérez will be one of the athletes who will represent El Salvador at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, which start next Friday, July 26. The list of Salvadorans in these games is completed by Enrique Arathoon (Sailing) and Uriel Canjura (Badminton).
