It will be played on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 May in Carcassonne, at the Gymnase des Serres. The Occitanie senior regional finals will take place this weekend. Gérard Aval, president of the club, hopes for a “maintenance” of the senior boys’ team. Other objectives of different kinds are on the agenda, in terms of welcoming teams, supporters, the operation of the refreshment bar and the recruitment of new players!
A new season is coming to an end for the Carcassonne basketball club (Sport Olympique carcassonne, or Soc). They are now 200 licensees including “a big third of feminine”, explains Gérard Aval. The objective for the next seasons is to be able to offer a complete range of categories for women. They have also achieved the objectives for this season, which would allow the formation of a fourth team. The club has nevertheless encountered difficulties for the U17 boys, as many young people leave after their baccalaureate. Conversely, for the U13s, the club had to “refuse a dozen children”in order to favor a quality of training, affirms the president, adding that he did not think that they “would come back strong”. As for the Basketball School, the slots for the U11s are well distributed and fixed, favoring “increased retention rate”.

Regarding development prospects, the Soc is well on the way to acquiring two labels. Starting with the Federal Microbasket Label (3-5 years), whose officials have obtained the “discovery” mention for May and June. It would take one more educator to have this label for good. The club is also trying to obtain the Citizen Label, given by the French Basketball Federation. Several criteria must be met: solidarity, feminization, sustainable development, sharing, integrity and diversity, ethics and respect… They are evaluated by stars: to have the first, the club must meet 18 criteria. The Carcassonne basketball teams hope to have the pleasure of wearing this label.
The club has also registered for the feria in order to highlight the actions of the whole team to move the city, and move basketball.
