10 days of technical visits for the 57th final of the Quebec Games

FIRST OFFICIAL STEP TOWARDS THE IMPLEMENTATION OF COMPETITIONS

From May 2 to 12, 2022, the Organizing Committee of the 57th Quebec Games Final (COFJQ – 2023) will conduct the first round of technical visits for its 21 competition sites.

In the presence of some members of SPORTSQUÉBEC, the COFJQ – 2023 will meet the Sports Federations whose discipline is presented during the July 2023 Final in order to validate the compliance of the competition platforms and their related places. This is a decisive step in setting up the Rimouski Final.

A titanic job

For several weeks, the sports operations team as well as the logistics team of the COFJQ – 2023 have been working hard to prepare for these visits, which are the cornerstone of the preparation and implementation of high quality competition venues. for our Final.

“Technical visits are an opportunity for Sports Federations to come and see the grids suggested by the COFJQ – 2023 and to ensure that they meet the minimum and ideal standards required for the holding of competitions. It will also be an opportunity for the COFJQ – 2023 to validate the proposals for related premises and the first drafts of the layout of the sites”, specifies Émilie St-Pierre, Assistant General Manager – Sports Operations and Participant Services.

In order to meet the requirements of the Federations and allow athletes to compete on high quality competition platforms, the COFJQ – 2023 works with specifications of more than thirty pages, for each of the 13 Federations. These specifications are drawn up, sent to the Federations and meticulously analyzed by the sports operations coordinator who ensures that nothing will be omitted.

The role of sports federations

The Sports Federations have authority over the sports governance of their discipline, which includes in particular the regulations, the results and the format of the competitions. They are also responsible for appointing major officials and validating the competition field for the Finals of the Quebec Games.

Their role during the preparation of a Final of the Quebec Games is to accompany the organizing committee in the respect of the sports management and to offer them all the information and the support necessary for the realization of a competition of the most favorable for their athletes.

SPORTSQUÉBEC, corporation that oversees the Quebec Games finals, also attends these technical visits to provide support and expertise to the organizing committee.

Improvement of sports facilities

The vast majority of the outdoor sports grounds that will host the competitions have been or should be subject to improvements or upgrades in view of the 2023 Grand Final. The construction of a new archery field will be completed this summer, as well as the repair of the synthetic surface at the Guillaume-Leblanc Sports Complex, the mountain bike trails at Beauséjour Park will be improved, five new beach volleyball courts will be built this fall, not to mention the improvements to the soccer fields and baseball.

This infrastructure is magnificent and will constitute, like the other sites and equipment that will be used for the Games, a precious legacy to the citizens of Rimouski as well as to the various sports clubs that play there”, rejoices Chantal Pilon, General Manager.

The 57th final of the Quebec Games – Rimouski 2023

It was in 2019 that the City of Rimouski was officially designated as the host city of the 57th Final of the Quebec Games. Originally scheduled for July 2022, the event was postponed to summer 2023 due to the pandemic. To date, more than 20 people have been hired within the COFJQ – 2023 and, at the end of 2022, more than 40 employees will be working to organize this exceptional event. From July 21 to 29, 2023, no less than 19 sports disciplines will be presented, spread over two blocks, during this Summer Final. The city of Rimouski is preparing to welcome 3,500 athletes, 1,500 companions and nearly 125,000 visitors over the 9 days of competition.
