1. FC Nuremberg: 14 years in prison for ex-Bundesliga professional Sezer Öztürk – Bundesliga

Now he has to be behind bars.

Since yesterday it is clear: Ex-Bundesliga professional Sezer Öztürk (36) has to go to prison for 14 years and seven months! The former Nuremberg and Leverkusen player (nine Bundesliga games) was convicted by an Istanbul court.

Öztürk shot and killed a 24-year-old man on the street in Istanbul on September 19 last year after arguing with the victim’s group because they had blocked a street.

Öztürk then fled and went into hiding. He was finally arrested in late November trying to cross the border into Georgia in the back seat of a truck.

The public prosecutor’s office had even demanded 23 years in prison for murder and assault for his crimes. During the trial, Öztürk explained that he had acted in self-defense because the group and the victim had threatened him.

Öztürk last played as a professional in 2015 for Besiktas Istanbul. Before that, he also played for city rivals Fenerbahçe, having originally played in the youth teams of Rot-Weiss Essen and Leverkusen.
