Wout van Aert can start training again, but the Amstel on Sunday comes too early | Amstel Gold Race

Wout van Aert became ill a few days before the Tour of Flanders, as it turned out to be a corona infection. Van Aert did not seem to give up on this very much, so the medical staff at Jumbo-Visma gave permission to resume the training sessions barely a week later.

The Dutch formation is not taking any risks yet for the Amstel Gold Race. Van Aert is kept aside there. Tiesj Benoot, Christophe Laporte and Tom Dumoulin are the leaders, supplemented by Mike Teunissen, Nathan Van Hooydonck, Timo Roosen and Jos van Emden.

We may see Van Aert again at the start of Paris-Roubaix a week later, where he can still win that coveted monument this spring. Van Aert cannot drive the Brabantse Pijl, on Wednesday, because Jumbo-Visma is not on the list of participants there.
