When the National Badminton Championships run off the stack in 2023, it will be with Holbæk Municipality as host of the big sporting event.
113,000 Danes play badminton at association level across the country, and every year many of the youth players fight against each other for the National Badminton Championships, VICTOR LM.
Next year, it will take place in the whole of Holbæk Municipality, which will host the sporting event in January. It has just become official, after Badminton Denmark, Holbæk Badminton Club and Holbæk Municipality have entered into and signed a cooperation agreement.
– I am very excited that we will be hosting the National Championships in Badminton 27.-29. January 2023. It will be exciting to experience the many talented youth players from all over the country in our municipality. And I’m glad that Holbæk Sportsby and the halls in our local areas together can host such an event. It is precisely possible in the spirit of community, says Ole Hansen, chairman of the Committee for Culture and Leisure.
Badminton Denmark is also looking forward to the championship and the collaboration:
– We look forward to welcoming players, parents, coaches, volunteers and spectators to VICTOR LM 2023, and we are really happy that it will be in collaboration with Holbæk Municipality and the local clubs. We are convinced that in collaboration we can help ensure a lot of good experiences for all participants, says Bo Jensen, director of Badminton Denmark.

Great local support
Holbæk Municipality received an inquiry earlier this year about the settlement of the championships. Holbæk Badminton, Jernløse Badminton Club and Holbæk Sportsby discussed various possibilities and needs, just as the halls have been part of the dialogue.
– This is a collaboration between several parties and the event is really important for the cohesion between country and city in our municipality. It will be a badminton party for the benefit of everyone in the municipality, and therefore we also throw a lot of work into it. It is a big task, but it will be absolutely fantastic, says Ole Colberg, who is chairman of Holbæk Badminton Club.
Bjarne Næslev, chairman of Jernløse Badminton Club, completely agrees:
– It is a huge event where a lot of people can experience really good badminton. So I very much hope that a lot of people will come out into the halls and help create the right atmosphere, says Bjarne Næslev.
1000 players on the courts
There will be servings and smashes on the waist loose when the championships run off the stack. The expectation is that approximately 1000 players will play more than 2,500 matches on 80 courses across the municipality, and both local halls and Stenhus Gymnasium make the courses available completely free of charge. In addition, the high school provides classrooms for overnight stays. One third of players and managers are expected to come west of the Great Belt and may therefore need a place to sleep.
The overall framework is in place and now the practical planning begins. Therefore, a steering group is set up across federations, associations, halls, high school and municipality, which together can stack VICTOR LM on its feet.
