US activist sticks to basketball field

An animal welfare activist caused a game in the American basketball league NBA to be interrupted. She suddenly threw herself onto the field.

Curious scene at an American basketball game on Wednesday: A woman fell from the spectator area under the basket. What initially looked like an accident was apparently intentional. Because the woman had tried to stick to the ground.

The NBA game between the Clippers and the Timberwolves in Minneapolis was in full swing when the incident caused a disruption. When security forces attempted to lift the woman off the ground, TMZ reported that she had taped her hands. Apparently she had sprayed some glue in the basket area, which she then lay down on. This didn’t seem to be very consistent though. A short time later she was picked up by the security forces and escorted out of the hall.

According to TMZ, the protest was against Wolves owner Glen Taylor. According to animal rights activists Direct Action Everywhere, he would illegally kill chickens in his egg production in Iowa. The woman had identified herself on Twitter: It is Alicia Santurio. She had announced the protest and accused herself.

It is unclear whether Santurio was arrested. According to the media, she has now been banned from the stadium for a year. If she still tries to enter the hall, a complaint would be filed, TMZ quoted the Minneapolis police department as saying.
