Davis Cup 2022: Malaga, host of the Davis Cup finals the next two years

Lhe International Tennis Federation and Kosmos have announced this Wednesday that Malaga will host the final phase of the Davis Cup by Rakuten Finals, in the 2022 and 2023 editions.

In this way, the Andalusian city takes over from Madrid, home of the fight for the title in 2019 and 2021with the triumphs of Spain and Russia.

The José María Martn Carpena pavilion will receive the eight best teams in the world after the group stage that will be played in September (14 to 18).

Malaga, which was going to be one of the four cities that would host the classification, along with Bologna, Hamburg and Glasgow, it falls off the list by hosting the finals.

The ITF and Kosmos have opened a bidding process that has a deadline of April 21 and which can be attended by the 13 countries that will be in the pots of the groups, other than Italy, Germany and Great Britain.

The chosen city will be announced on April 26, the same day that the draw for the four groups will be held in Malaga.

“Mlaga and Andaluca have opened their doors to host the knockout phase of the Davis Cup for the Rakuten Finals and we will support them to become the world capital of tennis by hosting the 8 best teams in November. We will work together with the institutions to offer an unforgettable experience to players and fans from all over the world”, comments Albert Costa, director of the Davis Cup Finals.

It will not be the first time that Carpena receives the maximum competition for passes. Spain played the 2003 semifinal against Argentina on a track that was built in the facility’s parking lot.

Mayor, Francis of the Towerstated that, for the city, “hosting a sporting event of this caliber is of great interest because it boosts the visibility of the city, a commitment to sport that contributes to our international projection. The City Council will collaborate with the organization of this important event in whatever it takes to make it a success.

It should be remembered that the entire competition, both the qualifying phase and the quarterfinals, semifinals and final, will be played on hard surface indoors.

Spain, only in the case of being the host in the group stage, would already have Canada assigned as their rival, which appears in pot 2 where they are also Germany, Great Britain and Italy.
