Major League Baseball (MLB) has become one of the sports leagues in which several of the players have hefty salaries that can even exceed the full payroll of lower-budget teams such as the Oakland Athletics.

Although it may seem incredible, in this last example it is real, and it is that for the 2022 Major League season, at least five players will receive more money than the Athletics spent on their payroll of this campaign, which is around $30 million dollars.

USA Today reporter Bob Nightengale revealed the names and salaries of The five players who will earn the most money in the current MLB season which will start this Thursday.

  • Max Scherzer – New York Mets: $43.3 million dollars.
  • Corey Seager – Texas Rangers: $37.5 million.
  • Anthony Rendon – Los Angeles Angels: $37.5 million dollars.
  • Gerrit Cole – New York Yankees: $36 million.
  • Carlos Correa – Minnesota Twins: $35.1 million.

This information published by Nightengale left a very interesting fact that shows how unbalanced baseball is in the United States in terms of money and player salaries.

In recent years, several Major League teams have made astronomical investments in player contracts with very striking figures, among them are Scherzer and his contract of $130 million dollars with the Mets, that of Puerto Rican Francisco Lindor for $345 million also with the Mets, that of Fernando Tatis Jr. with the San Diego Padres for 342 million among others.

And not satisfied with this, many rumors suggest that some players like the Dominican Juan Soto of the Washington Nationals they could earn $50 million per season in the next years.
