Tinelli resigned from San Lorenzo: his explanations

Finally, the rumor that circulated during the last week ended up being consumed this Saturday at noon. Marcelo Tinelli, through a statement published on his social networks, announced that he had resigned from his position as president of San Lorenzo. Although he had not been practicing for almost a year, because on May 14, 2021 he had requested a license, this gesture was expected to have clarity regarding the future leadership of the institution.

During the week, Marcelo Hugo himself had expressed himself on Twitter before the already public news that Both Matías Lammens and the rest of the leadership had asked him to make a decision: either he would return or he would resign, but he could not continue on leave while the club caught fire. He asked for a few more days and now he announced a decision that will serve to decompress the hot climate that exists both within the club and in the stands.

“My apologies for not being able to stay longer. My other activities that are very public don’t allow me to be 100 percent in a place that requires a full-time job,” Tinelli expressed in his statement, and added: “I would never allow my presence to generate divisions and violence among the San Lorenzo fans who love the club or that San Lorenzo be harmed in any area.”

Tinelli has a history in situations like this: In 2014, he fired the bomb of his license request on Twitter in the middle of the Copa Libertadores, but months later he returned to occupy the vice chair. Later in time, he did not raise any request although he moved away from soccer and dedicated himself exclusively to basketball.

What’s next now? There will be no major changes, since the president will continue to be Horacio Arreceygor, who has already exercised that function since the TV host decided to start his license period. Lammens is also still involved at full. Can there be modifications? It is early to know, although today everyone agrees that it is necessary to reorder the power and management of the club.

THE FULL COMMUNICATION FROM TINELLI

Hello everyone. I want to communicate with you by this means, because I feel that it is the best way to express what I feel in a genuine way. Whenever decisions are made it is impossible to please everyone. I have decided to leave my position as President of San Lorenzo de Almagro.

As I have expressed it on many occasions, football is my passion. Everyone who knows me well knows it. I have even come to think and dream that it has a lot to do with my mission in life.

One’s wishes and the reality that is expressed at each moment often do not go hand in hand. Or, rather, what you feel when you think you’re giving your best, at certain times it doesn’t translate into a concrete reality or it’s not enough.

I have gone through many difficulties in my life, I have nurtured myself from them, but I have often understood the data of reality, and, there, in this time away, I can see that beyond everything I gave and have to give, Maybe it’s not the time, even if it hurts.

Thanks to all the fans and partners of San Lorenzo for the love and support in the last “elections. My apologies for not being able to be there longer. My other activities that are very public do not allow me to be 100 percent , in a place that requires a full-time job. I have left my soul and much more in these almost 10 years, and also together with a wonderful team, we have left some indelible achievements for the club’s history, such as the Copa Libertadores, playing the intercontinental final with Real Madrid, countless works donated to the institution, the return to the National Basketball League, 5 National titles, 2 American Championships, 2 games against NBA teams (an unprecedented event in Argentine basketball), the Law of Restitution h Rezoning and the purchase of the La Plata.

I would never allow my presence to generate divisions and violence among the San Lorenzo fans who love the club or for San Lorenzo to be harmed in any area. My family and my professional work today also put a stop to this project.

Thanks to all who accompanied me and were loyal at all times. I will always be there to help San Lorenzo wherever I am needed, as I have done during this period and throughout more than 30 years. It is not a goodbye, we will see each other again soon in this wonderful passion that is football and in this unique and indissoluble love that is San Lorenzo. I love you so much.
