The UR will have 51 athletes in the Spanish University Championships

Fabiola Portillo Pérez de Viñaspre, vice-rector for Corporate Social Responsibility of the UR and Eloy Madorrán Castresana, general director of Sports of the Government of La Rioja, have presented the 51 athletes who will represent the University of La Rioja in the Spanish Championships University students.

Organized by the Higher Sports Council (CSD), the Spanish University Championships are the highest competition at the university level in which, in this edition, the University of La Rioja will have 51 representatives.

Of these, 19 will do so in the individual modalities of chess, athletics, fencing, golf, weightlifting, judo, karate and table tennis; Of the total, 15 are men and the other 4 are women. In addition, another 32 will represent the University of La Rioja in team sports, handball and futsal. In total, there are ten modes.

The selection of the representatives has been carried out after a process in which different aspects have been assessed, such as the sports curriculum, technical reports, brands and results in competitions held during the current season.

The selected students become part of the TUDAR Program, which consists of providing academic support and tutoring to students so that they can combine their studies with high-level sports.

In 2022, the Spanish University Championships will be held at the Catholic University of Murcia (UCAM). The championships began in Lorca on March 2 with the cross country modality and will close on May 29 in Los Alcázares with the taekwondo modality.

The last participation of the UR in this official competition was in 2019; Then, 66 athletes participated in 12 sports with a balance of three medals: one gold medal for Eduardo Santo Tomás Curbeira in weightlifting and two bronze medals for Lucía Villoslada Martínez in taekwondo and Paula Vicente Ramos in judo. 75 universities and around 4,200 university athletes participated in an edition that took place in the Valencian Community.
