In the “Open” tour of the Latvian Basketball Union, all five stages of the main tournament for men’s teams were completed in 3×3 basketball, after which the participants of the final competition became known. On Saturday, May 7, 12 men’s quartets will compete in the Kandava Sports Hall for a ticket to the International Basketball Federation’s World Tour Qualification “Challenger” competition in Pristina, Kosovo. The best women’s quartet will also be determined in Kandava.
The Latvian Basketball Union (LBS) “Open” tour took five stages – on February 5 in Ropaži, on February 27 in Jelgava, on March 20 in Madona, on April 10 in Ventspils and on April 24 in Ķekava. The winners of the first two tournaments were the 3×3 basketball players of “3×3 Jelgava”, the German “Düsseldorf LFDY” triumphed in Madona, the “MSA” remained unbeaten in Ventspils, but the representatives of the Lithuanian “Candyshop” were the best in Kekava.
A total of 37 teams from Latvia, Lithuania, Ukraine and Germany participated in the five stages. The winners of the overall standings were MSA, which scored a total of 310 points in four tournaments. Second place went to “3×3 Jelgava” (280 points in three stages), and third place – “Candyshop” (230 points in three tournaments). “Kraslava”, “Düsseldorf LFDY”, “Kandava / Anzag”, “Ukraine-Celtic” also entered the “Top 12”. “3×3 M / SrotsMadona.lv”, “3x3Madona / Solartbuilding”, “Strength Movement”, “3×3 Ādaži / Bauerfeind” and “Kudzy / Balt.Ekspresis”.
The list of finalists is not final, because in order to participate in the May 7 tournament in Kandava, teams must meet the conditions of the players’ previous participation in their membership. Three players need two stages, and the fourth participant – at least one tournament in the LBS “Open” tour.
There were two tournaments in the women’s competition. “RSU” won in Jelgava, but “Ukraine” won in Kekava. It is planned that eight women’s teams will start in the final tournament in Kandava.
The final tournament will take place in cooperation with the Kandava Culture and Sports Center.
Prizes for the winners from the tour supporters – LBS, “Sportland”, construction company “Restaurators”, Kandava cafe “Pie Kristapa”, “Kandava kart track”. “Mangaļi” provides water for 3×3 basketball players during tournaments.
