Original title: BWF confirms ranking unfreezing plan to resume 52-week rankings in 2023

On April 9, Beijing time, the Badminton World Federation confirmed the ranking unfreezing plan, which will transition to a 52-week world ranking from August 2, 2022. The complete ranking will be announced on January 3, 2023. The Secretary-General of the BWF said that the current BWF has a stable schedule and sufficient number of events, which can already ensure a smooth transition of rankings.

Affected by the new crown epidemic, the ranking of the BWF has been frozen since March 17, 2020. After the 2020 BWF World Finals, the ranking will be restarted, and the point statistics period will be extended to select the last 10 points of all events from the 12th week of 2019 to the present. In the weekly world rankings starting from August 2, 2022, the 4-week ranking points from the 12th week of 2019 will be canceled, and the 10 points with the highest points in all competitions in the last 52 weeks will be added together. In the first week of 2023, three weeks of all-time world ranking points will be eliminated to complete the transition. This also means that if the Chinese players who have participated in the past two seasons in the past two seasons were affected by the epidemic, if they want to maintain the current ranking, they need to participate in as many competitions as possible to obtain points before the points of the 2019 season are deducted from multiple stations.

Previously, some players of the Chinese badminton team collectively withdrew from the Swiss Open due to positive nucleic acid test results before the start of the competition. Due to the epidemic, the Chinese badminton team did not participate in most of the points competitions, except for major international events such as the Tokyo Olympics, the World Championships, the Tang You Cup, and the Sudirman Cup.
