Hamburg. The Basketball Supercup will take place this year as a test run for the European Championships in Hamburg’s Barclays Arena. On August 19th and 20th, in addition to host Germany, Italy, the Czech Republic and Serbia will also be at the start, as the German Basketball Association (DBB) announced.

“The participating teams are all very strong, all high-ranking teams. It’s a very good situation for our players to be able to play against these strong opponents in front of our fans,” said national coach Gordon Herbert.

Directly after the Supercup, there are still World Cup qualifiers waiting before the first German European Championship game against France is scheduled for September 1st. “Up to a certain point, we should then have our team complete,” said Herbert with a view to the Supercup. Above all, the 63-year-old hopes that many NBA professionals will take part.

Germany meets the Czech Republic in the semifinals on August 19 (8.30 p.m.), before that (6 p.m.) Italy and Serbia play each other. On Saturday, the game for third place and the final are on the program.

NBA star player Nikola Jokic from the Denver Nuggets could be part of the Supercup opponent Serbia. The center won the NBA’s Most Valuable Player award last season and is a top pick for the coveted award this season.
