Standard de Liège: Luka Elsner thanked immediately after the takeover of the club by 777 Partners, who wants to seize the Red Star

The big maneuvers quickly began for 777 Partners at Standard de Liège. The day after the official takeover of the club by the American investment company, possible future owner of Red Star, Standard decided to part with its coach Luka Elsner, as well as his assistant Serge Costa. The Belgian club announced the information on Wednesday in a press release: “Standard de Liège has decided to put an end to its collaboration with Luka Elsner. Our club would like to thank Luka for his investment in recent months and for his professionalism in all circumstances.

The new bosses have formed a provisional administration. The training sessions will be led by young Will Still, a 29-year-old former assistant to Elsner, and the rest of the staff still in place. The press release also specifies that the priority was to find a new technician: “Our club will now start looking for a new coach for next season”.

Luka Elsner joined the club last October, following the dismissal of Mbaye Leye. Six months later, the Franco-Slovenian has a record of seven wins, eight draws and twelve defeats. Standard ended the season in a sad fourteenth place, and will therefore not participate in the play-offs.

Already hostile to the takeover, the Red Star Ultras should not look favorably on these administrative reorganizations carried out by 777 Partners in the acquired clubs. Such an upheaval in the staff had already been noticed when the Americans arrived at Genoa, the oldest club in Serie A.
