Pelé’s son on internship at Union: “At first they didn’t know who I was”

Joshua Nascimento, the footballing legend’s son, was on probation at Union.

King Pelé knows Belgium well. The former footballer, now 81, has more than once walked the Belgian lawns with his club Santos during European tours. Close to Paul Van Himst, nicknamed the “White Pelé”, the Brazilian had a great Belgian friend, Lucien Levaux, former public relations officer at Standard.

From now on, Pelé can tag himself with having a new link with our Kingdom: Joshua Nascimento, his 25-year-old son, is coming out of an intensive week of internship at the Union Saint-Gilloise. Anyone who wants to become a physical trainer participated in the preparation for the meeting against Ostend in mid-March. “I landed at Union via Chris O’Loughlin (Editor’s note: club sporting director) with whom I have a friend in commonexplains the one who is one of the seven children of Pelé. It was the first time I could see how a club worked from the inside, outside of the United States and Brazil. Every coach or player dreams of going to work or play in Europe. For me, it was an incredible opportunity to immerse myself in European football. Chris opened the doors of the club to me and did everything to make me feel at home. I really felt that I was part of the staff during this week of training.”
