Panamanian judo wins bronze in Spain and gets ready for Pan American

Panamanian judo is finishing its preparation in Spain with a view to the Pan-American championship, after obtaining a bronze medal in the ‘Copa de España “A” de Judo Absoluta de Galicia’.

The bronze medal was achieved by the young Némesis Candelo in the -48 kilogram category in this sporting event, which was attended by athletes from Portugal, Finland, Norway, Panama and teams from Spain.

Candelo is part of a delegation of nine athletes who have been participating in a camp in La Coruña for more than a month, with the aim of training and gaining experience with a view to the upcoming international tournaments.

Estela Riley, president of the Panamanian Judo Federation, reported that the next international competition will be the Pan American Championship, which will be held in Lima, Peru, from April 15 to 17 in the Senior category.

“The athletes must be returning to Panama no later than April 10 to later travel to Lima, Peru, for the Pan American,” added Riley.

In addition to Candelo, the Isthmus delegation will be made up of Olympic athlete Kristine Jiménez (-52 kilos), Estefani Aguilera (-63 kilos), Pablo Díaz (-60kg), Bernabé Vergara (-60kg), Fernando Martínez (-66kg), Ronal González (-73kg), Alexis Harrison (-81kg), César Castillo (-90kg) and Arturo Kwiers (-73kg).

The coaches that will accompany the athletes from Isthmus will be Amado Molina and Alexis Fondin, in addition to the sports director of the federation, Gustavo Cuervo, and referee Eduardo Sealy.
