National Volunteer Week winners announced

The City of Saint-Charles-Borromée highlighted the Volunteer Week by holding its annual volunteer recognition cocktail on Thursday, April 28, under the theme of Cruise.

This event was an opportunity to highlight the work of volunteers who improve the lives of Charlois in various community life and social economy organizations.

During the evening, guests and recipients were able to celebrate the work of volunteers in six categories. Here are the winners for 2020 and 2021.

Volunteer of the Year: Pierre Boily

Volunteer of the association of Expos of Lanaudière-Nord, baseball vice-president Pierre Boily and member of the board of directors is far from unemployed. The winner is recognized for his involvement in making baseball a sport accessible to the greatest number of young people, both girls and boys.

Voluntary organizations of the year: SSVP and Émilie-Gamelin

The Saint Vincent de Paul Society (SSVP) of Joliette has throughout the year provided direct assistance to the needy in Joliette, Notre-Dame-des-Prairies, Saint-Charles-Borromée and Crabtree. For example, by giving them grocery vouchers, clothing vouchers, vouchers for furniture and household appliances or by referring them to other community organizations.

Sports and physical activity volunteers: Julie Brouillet and Marie-Ève ​​Laporte

For 3 years, Julie Brouillet has acted as program director CanSkate Plus oh be you club The Silver Stars. She takes care of the administration of the program, the registrations, the communications with the parents and the follow-up of the evolution of the children.

Marie-Ève ​​Laporte has been involved for several years in the figure skating club The Silver Stars of Joliet. Over the years, she has held several roles within the club, such as president, vice-president, social media manager, organizer of the recognition evening and many others.

Volunteers from the cultural sector: Denise Desmarais and Monique Forgues

Volunteer since 2017 at the Rina-Lasnier LibraryDenise Desmarais got involved in the service Biblio Troubadour, for the home loan component. During the pandemic, the home loan for subscribers confined to their homes due to a temporary or permanent physical disability was the first service outside the walls to be reactivated.

Monique Forgues is a long-time volunteer at the Antoine-Lacombe House and Gardens. Passionate about culture, she is also involved in the Joliette Art Museum. For several years, she has been helping to create exhibition sets. She also participates in the hanging of works and labels.

Volunteers from the community and association sector: Hélène Laporte and Danielle Piette (SSVP)

Hélène Laporte has more than 20 years of volunteer work at the SSVP. Over the years, she has made her mark as a remarkable team volunteer by brilliantly meeting several challenges, including that of sponsoring, along with Danielle Piette, a family of Colombian refugees.

Like her partner Hélène Laporte, Danielle Piette volunteers with the company Saint Vincent de Paul (SSVP) for over 20 years. Through involvement and dedication, volunteers like Danielle Piette, who dedicate themselves to others with so much heart and energy, make a real difference in the community, year after year.

Shadow volunteers: Sylvie Desrosiers and Michel Bélair

The president of the Volunteer Corporation and Team Leader for Boutique Volunteers at Lanaudière Hospital Center (CHDL), Sylvie Desrosiers, has stood out over the past few months because she took the reopening of the CHDL to heart. She did not hesitate to put her shoulder to the wheel so that everything was in place on D-Day, that is to say on November 29 after 20 months of closure.

Me Michel Bélair has been practicing in Joliette since his admission to the Bar in 1978. Involved in his community, he participated and continues to be actively involved with various organizations. Me Bélair’s involvement in his community has been recognized on several occasions, notably as a member of the urban planning commission starting in 1984 and for his work on the Urban Planning Advisory Committee (CCU) of the Municipality of Saint- Charles-Borromée, since its creation in 1986.
