Modica – Quasimodo Literary Café: Saturday with Tullio Sammito

The next appointment of the Quasimodo Literary Café in Modica will be dedicated to historical memory, which will be held on Saturday 23 April, at 5.30 pm, at the Palazzo della Cultura as part of the 16th cultural season 2021-2022.

At the center of the evening the presentation of the book “Silvano / Turiddu. A life story ”, written by Tullio Sammito from Ragusa, former school director of the“ G. Vico ”in Ragusa and the“ Galilei – Campailla ”Scientific High School in Modica.

Giuseppe Macauda, member of Caffè Quasimodo, will coordinate the evening; will be attended by Giancarlo Sammito, poet and writer, curator of cultural events at the Sala del Grechetto of the Sormani Library in Milan, and Domenico Pisana, President of the Quasimodo Literary Café.

Actress Carla Cintolo and Tulliola Sammito, expert in communication, will read passages from the book, while Maestro Sergio Carrubba will enrich the evening with musical interludes.

“The effectiveness of this book – Domenico Pisana declares – lies entirely in the ability of a son to put three elements in hermeneutic circularity: memory, time and history, with a narrative that is capable of bringing facts, events, places and people by saving them from oblivion. Tullio Sammito places the reader, thanks also to the relevant iconographic apparatus, in front of a narration at times moving and essentialized in the various expressions of the paternal personality: life, war, affective and family relationships, anxieties, struggles, and everything what characterized the story of Turiddu, who died very young. Surely this publication keeps the ‘collective identity’ of our history alive; books like these teach that you cannot get used to the idea of a ‘today without a past’, on pain of losing the sense of the future “.
