Lugano: Nardi aims for an encore

Second title out of two finals played for Luca Nardi, winner of the “Challenger Banca Stato Città di Lugano”, Challenger ATP endowed with a prize pool of 45,730 euros which has ended on the indoor concrete of the Conza Pavilion in Lugano, Switzerland.

In the challenge that awarded the trophy the 18-year-old from Pesaro, 297 ATP, entered the draw as an “alternate”, in his second career Challenger final (after that of Forlì at the beginning of January won against the Indian Sasikumar), he beat in comeback for 46 62 63, in just over an hour and a half of the game, the Swiss Leandro Riedi, 590 ATP, on the scoreboard thanks to a wild card.

Thanks to this result, from Monday Nardi will rise to number 231 ATP, naturally best ranking, improving by 45 positions.

The man from the Marches had a fairly rapid path in the tournament: after regulating the French Hugo Grenier on his debut in two sets, 154 of the ranking and seventh favorite in seeding, having repeated himself against the Bosnian Aldin Setkic, 364 ATP, coming from the qualifiers, and having canceled a match-point in the quarters to the Swiss Jerome Kym, n. 1,025 ATP, also qualified, in the semifinals he left just two games to the German Cedrik-Marcel Stebe, # 218 ATP, taking revenge on the 31-year-old from Muehlacker for the defeat in the first round of the Challenger of Cordenons in 2020.

The 20-year-old from Frauenfeld, on the other hand, had reached his first final at Challenger level by eliminating the French Pierre-Hugues Herbert, n.134 in the ranking and fourth favorite in the seeding, in “semi” at the tie-break of the decisive set.
