A big one is leaving. One but the most beloved of the Gallic players and who knew how to reach, among other great marks, the final of the Australian Open 2008 which, in the end, would end with the first Major won by Serbian Novak Djokovic.

Owner of immeasurable talent, Tsonga debuted as a professional in 2004 and from there he forged a formidable career, those that are only within the reach of a privileged few. The Le Mans native competed in an era dominated by Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray but, thanks to his intelligence and innumerable resources on the court, he was one of the few players capable of upsetting and even beating them in multiple occasions. He defeated the Swiss six times, the Spanish four times, the Serbian six times and the British twice.

Tsonga was no longer a recurring man in tournaments due to different injuries that kept him away from the front page and He played the Masters 1000 in Miami last week, a tournament to which he returned after 6 years of absence, and was eliminated in the first round at the hands of Australian Jordan Thompson. This year, he only played four ATP tournaments and in none of them he got past the second round.

The passage of time is inevitable and this time it was Jo-Wilfried Tsonga’s turn. A charismatic and legendary tennis player says goodbye and will be fired as he deserves: before his people and at Roland Garros, where he was a semifinalist in 2013 and 2015.
