‘I think I’m being disinherited’

Justin Bijlow does not see himself making the switch from Feyenoord to Ajax. Steven Berghuis did it last summer, while Arne Slot was asked several times about a future as Ajax coach. Whatever the choices of others may be, the keeper knows that a transfer to Amsterdam is difficult for him.

In conversation with the magazine Helden, Bijlow comes up with an anecdote that includes the rivalry between the two clubs. ‘At a youth match of my brother, a former Ajax trainer said to him: “Maybe Justin is something for us.” My brother replied, “Well, I don’t think so. He wants to play everywhere except with you.”‘

The goalie is not only a Feyenoord fan himself, his loved ones would also not be happy with Ajax as his employer. ‘My entire family and group of friends are Feyenoord fans. I think I’ll be disinherited if I ever make the switch to Ajax and lose a lot of friends.’

Bijlow has made considerable progress in recent years. With Feyenoord he is no less than eleven points behind Ajax, but he has already developed into the first keeper of Orange. Currently, however, the keeper – and this is not the first time in his career – is injured.

The sensitive switch from Feyenoord to Ajax

His trainer, Slot, has recently been asked several times about a possible future at Ajax. Erik ten Hag seems to be moving to Manchester United in the coming summer. The Feyenoord coach waved it off, but never closed the door completely. He spoke about Feyenoord’s midweek obligations: ‘I have said many times that I can’t imagine it at all. How much clearer do I have to be?’
