Hainer confirms new Lewandowski talks – Confidence at Neuer & Müller

There are still some uncertain personal details at FC Bayern in the plans for the coming season. Above all, the future of star striker Robert Lewandowski is unclear. The 33-year-old’s contract expires in 2023, but is to be extended – just like the working papers of Manuel Neuer (36) and Thomas Müller (32).

In the ‘Bild’ podcast ‘Bayern Insider’, club president Herbert Hainer comments on the current status of the trio: “Things are looking very good for Müller and Neuer, there are advanced talks and I also think that we will soon be able to announce something.”

Müller confirms “good talks”

Müller himself confirmed after yesterday’s 3-0 win at Arminia Bielefeld in the mixed zone (quoted via ‘kicker’): “In fact, there is nothing to announce, but we are in good talks. Both sides want it, and I believe that a solution will be found at the end of the day. How, when, where: you will find out then.”

Meanwhile, Lewandowski did not allow a statement to be elicited. But Hainer explained: “A conversation took place with Lewandowski. As far as I know, a second interview is already scheduled. The talks will continue there as well. We won’t let ourselves drift there.”

High demands and newcomers

The extension with the top players should ensure that the Munich team can also achieve their ambitious goals next year: “It is clearly our aim to play a role in the premier class. I can already say that our aim next year is not only to win the German championship and the DFB Cup, but also to play for victory in the Champions League. That’s not a question at all.”

That didn’t work out this year – in the quarter-finals of the premier class it was over against FC Villarreal. In order to prevent something similar in the future, the squad should be strengthened on the transfer market.

“We have a very, very good squad, but we will continue to develop it for the future. Where we think we still have room for improvement, we take a look around the market. Our sports management is on the road in many fields. As soon as there is something to report, we will do so.”, says Hainer. Likely newcomers at the moment are Noussair Mazraoui (24) and Ryan Gravenberch (19) from Ajax Amsterdam.
