Bluger and “Penguins” to meet Boston’s “Bruins” next season – Winter Hockey – Apollo.lv – Sports

The home game, which will feature the Bruins, will take place on January 2 at Fenway Park Stadium, where the last Winter Classic match was played in 2010.

For the Penguins, it will be the sixth game in the open air, as well as the third in the “Winter Classic”, while the Bruins will play the fifth match of its kind.

The Pittsburgh team played their first match in the open air in 2008, when they beat Buffalo’s Sabers 2: 1, winning Sydney’s crossbreed. In contrast, the Boston team conceded 1: 5 to Montreal’s Canadiens in their first open-air match in 2016.

Blugers will probably be only the third Latvian to take part in the “Winter Classics” game. First of all, in 2010, the Latvian defender Oskars Bārtulis took part in such a match in the Philadlefia “Flyers” shirt, but in 2018, Zemgus Girgensons together with Buffalo “Sabers” gave way to the New York “Rangers”.

The NHL introduced the tradition of “winter classics” in the open air on the first day of the new year in 2008. In 2023, it will be the 36th NHL outdoor game in general.
