Bayern Munich: The reckoning! What gives Nagelsmann time – Bundesliga

Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann (34) summed it up last week. It could be a very, very good season. Emphasis on CAN.

We already know: it won’t, Mr. Nagelsmann!

It will be a season that will go down in history. FC Bayern has never been eliminated from two competitions so embarrassingly. The fans are reminded of the Vestenbergsgreuth joke in the first round of the 1994 cup…

Out in the Champions League against Villarreal, seventh in the Spanish league.

Out in the DFB Cup against Gladbach with 0: 5, the eleventh table in the Bundesliga.

How embarrassing!

The almost certain tenth championship title in a row deserves respect, but is small consolation. If Dortmund hadn’t had to deal with so many problems of their own and if Leipzig hadn’t had to correct a trainer’s mistake with Marsch, the shell would certainly be in danger.

Kahn, Salihamidzic, Nagelsmann – this trio is responsible, this trio makes too many mistakes.

The grace period has expired for everyone!

The fact that Nagelsmann deviated from the back four again against Villarreal and risked the balance again with six offensive players has defiant characteristics. Substituting Davies for the unfamiliar central defender position was brutally punished when the goal was conceded. The fact that he relied on flanks as if Dieter Hoeneß was still in the center seemed unconceptual.

Two unwritten laws give Nagelsmann time to turn his talent into more titles: You rightly throw out a master coach after the first year just as little as a coach who has cost 25 million euros.

It should come as a warning, however, that Ancelotti and Kovac were fired a few months later despite winning the championship in their first year.

Sports director Salihamidzic is repeatedly said to have accepted the free Alaba departure in order to be able to push through his supposed king transfer Hernandez in the back four.

The Frenchman cost 80 million euros. EIGHTY MILLION! What is by far the most expensive purchase in 60 years of Bundesliga delivery for three years would justify a transfer fee of EIGHT MILLIONS. But Sarr, Sabitzer, Roca and Richards are not Bayern transfers either.

Kahn had a year and a half to familiarize himself with the background – unique in the football industry. He has been in charge since summer 2021 and still seems to be searching for his interpretation of the role of CEO. “Egg Titan” or “Ahead CEO” or both? He has to answer the question for himself and the club as soon as possible. If he’s still interested in the job.

Where does this FC Bayern want to go? Mia san – yes, who actually? Extend or sell at Lewandowski, Neuer, Gnabry and Müller? Transfer attack or training and sales association? Only national number 1 or also international top 4?

Ten years ago the club had fallen much lower. No title, three runners-up, including a 2-5 win against Dortmund in the cup final and a penalty-drama in the Dahoam final against Chelsea.

The ruthless analysis led to the commitment of the then record transfer Martinez for 40 million euros. He was the man who decisively led Bayern to the first treble in Bundesliga history in the following season.

That is what leadership is all about. When things get haywire, make the right decisions with a clear view.

But can this Bayern crisis? Specifically: Can Kahn and the chairman of the supervisory board Hainer crisis? It didn’t work that way when it came to Kimmich’s vaccinations or the controversial issue of Qatar.

For more than four decades, the club could rely on Hoeneß and/or Rummenigge. That era is over.

The competition can currently have justified hopes that troubled times are coming up at FC Bayern…
