Archery is an Olympic sport, although it is not the most popular, because many do not know what it consists of and also because the equipment, from the bows and arrows, are not cheap at all, which for many becomes one limitation, however, there are many options for them to get to know the sport, fall in love with it and start representing the universities, the state and even the country.

MODALITIES OF THE ARCHERY

Currently there are seven archery modalities such as outdoor target archery, which is the best known, indoor archery, field archery, long-distance archery, archery race , bow skiing and a forest tour, all consisting of hitting as close to the center of the target as possible to obtain the maximum number of points.

In addition, there are also different types of bow such as the long bow, short bow, recurve bow, compound bow, pulley bow and the Crossbow, which are used in different modalities, highlighting that the recurve bow is the one that is used in the Olympics.

VIRTUES

The coach of the UAQ Archery team, stated that without a doubt it is a sport that develops many virtues in those who practice it, such as concentration, self-confidence, perseverance among many others, which are beneficial not only life as a student, but in everyday life and especially in work.

“Of the virtues that archery develops, there is focus, concentration, if there is a level of physical performance, we, for example, develop resistance to strength, because our competitions last five hours, during which there is a question of resistance , of coordination, of repeating the movement, the psychological skills are perseverance, self-confidence, self-knowledge and that is what will allow you to be constant, those are the skills that can be gradually developed, maybe we are not so concentrated but the same sport stimulates you with each session, with each training”.

INCREASE INTEREST

Karen Adriana Meza Álvarez, pointed out that the interest in practicing Archery and more at the UAQ is increasing, since the first time there were only 20 students and currently there are more than 100 in the Faculty of Engineering alone. , in addition to what they have been able to do with the university sports Cubes, where they had a very good response before the pandemic, which they are beginning to resume and will even integrate high school schools.

“I started in Engineering as a sports subject process, we are 15 sports, we started the first time with 20 students and now there are more than 100, only in that faculty, in another program is the University Sports Clubs which is an initiative of the general coordination of sports to promote the sports initiation of this and more sports, we managed to grow to 120 students before the pandemic, right now we are going to start including high school graduates and we have a significant projection to be able to do from seedbeds to national teams, in the generation of 2019 was 13 university selected ”.

EXPENSIVE EQUIPMENT

The coach of the UAQ Archery team recognized that the sport is not cheap, because as the practice of the discipline progresses, bows and arrows can range from five thousand pesos to forty thousand pesos. Pesos, which are the bows that are used in fairs such as the Olympic Games, in addition to bales with the appropriate material to resist the power of the shots, range from ten thousand to fifteen thousand pesos each.

“In initiation, which are made of aluminum range from one thousand three hundred pesos, the competitive ones, which are made of carbon plus aluminum alloys, range from five thousand to twelve thousand pesos and which are from the bows that the national teams have, although of those used in the Olympic Games can cost up to 40 thousand pesos, when they are in the initiation stage we give them a kit that consists of a wooden bow, a bag for the arrows, three arrows, three protectors that are part of the goalkeeper’s clothing, amounts to a kit of three thousand five hundred pesos, when it is to compete it goes from eight thousand pesos at least, the bales have a minimum cost of ten thousand pesos, it has a material resistant to power, it lasts two years and a little more, the most expensive ones are fifteen thousand pesos”.
