The kick-off of the work at the Cerey football grounds was whistled yesterday. It is a two-headed project since two operations are planned in the coming months: the first concerns the old stabilized in the middle of the park?; the second is on the main pitch in natural grass.
From construction sites to projects, what to expect in 2022 in the Riom agglomeration (Puy-de-Dôme)?
“Thirty years ago, when the sports area was created, in addition to the natural grass pitch, a stabilized one was made at the request of the club. But the latter was not used very much, ”said Daniel Grenet, deputy in charge of sports. Since then, habits have also changed: in vogue in the 80s, stabilized has been overtaken by synthetic, more popular with clubs. “This also allows a greater use than the grass and a lower financial cost”, adds the elected official, who wishes to increase the dimension of space dedicated to football at Cerey, while freeing up a field for rugby at the Pierre- Robin.

Thus until the end of June, the work will focus on the new synthetic pitch with first a fence of the site then the start of the earthworks, for about ten days. The following steps will relate to the realization of the draining under-layer then of the coating. “There are different varieties of synthetic pitch. There, we opted for an optimum choice with a 60 mm thick covering and a mixed mono-filament, fibrillated turf, with encapsulated SBR granules”, describes Nicolas Laurans, head of the studies and works division. The future ground should be larger than today, representing 105 x 68 m, causing it to extend over the surroundings.

This operation finished, a second should begin from July 4 for the repair of the natural grass pitch, until September 30. Once sown, the new pitch, “very slightly moved from its current position”, could be operational in the spring of 2023. In the meantime, the matches will take place on the new synthetic pitch.
Monday morning, on the Cerey site, Daniel Grenet, deputy in charge of sports and Nicolas Laurans, head of the studies and works department came to see the start of the works.
New lighting installed
Additional work will also aim to create a secure access corridor to the synthetic pitch and to install new lighting candelabras on each of the pitches. Four poles each equipped with LEDs should be installed, reusing the existing one if possible, or upgrading it to another site. “They will be remotely controlled according to the land use schedule. That way, the grounds will only be lit if necessary,” develops Nicolas Laurans.
Once the construction sites have been completed, mobilizing around ten people each day, the site should have three approved and closed grounds and two training or leisure-oriented grounds which will be able to accommodate the public.
For the community, this represents an investment of just over €1 million for the construction of the synthetic pitch, to which are added €493,000 for the repair of the natural pitch and €338,000 for the lighting work. As for the maintenance of the new main ground, it will be watered by the current network but, from next year, Nicolas Laurans hopes to be able to do so using the pumping station.
Pool work in June
However, the work in the Cerey park should not stop there. Indeed, from the month of June, it is the renovation and extension site of the Béatrice-Hess aquatic center, carried by Riom Limagne et Volcans (RLV) which should open. Similarly, an extension of the shooting range is also planned at the regional archery center. Finally, at the entrance to the park, it is the roof of the gymnasium which should be renovated, for a first phase in 2023, before a total recovery of the structure in the long term.
Traffic and access. A fence as well as secure site access will be built from the current northwest entrance to the park, towards the current basketball court. Only the entrance to the park, to the right of the gymnasium of friendship, will be condemned. During the duration of the work, vehicle access to private properties will not be impacted but may be disrupted occasionally.
