Tiger Woods’ Express Round Trip to Augusta – The Masters

Tiger Woods traveled to Augusta on Tuesday for a final test before making a decision on his participation in the Masters in less than 10 days. Throwback to this crazy day that set the golf world on fire!

It was around 2:45 p.m. (French time) when the hunt began.

Golf fans and media around the world have started following a small cloud of pixels in the shape of an airplane on a site that collects transponder data from all aircraft around the globe.

The one that got all the attention had the registration N517TW, a Gulfstream G550 owned by Tiger Woods.

55 minutes after taking off from Stuart Airfield in Florida, the jet landed as expected about 700 kilometers further north at Augusta Regional Airport in Georgia.

Rumor confirmed

So the rumor was true. Tiger Woods was on his way to the site of the first major of the season in order to carry out a last full-scale test in anticipation of a hypothetical participation in the Masters in 8 days.

Woods, who has not reappeared in an official PGA Tour tournament since the November 2020 edition of the Masters, therefore wishes to assess his state of physical form and most certainly his competitiveness, a little more than 13 months after his terrible road accident from which he came out with a crushed leg.

18 holes and that’s it

Accompanied by his son Charlie and Justin Thomas, Tiger arrived mid-morning at the Augusta National Golf Club.

According to the few people present on the spot, they hit balls at the driving range before heading to the course. The truth ! Not that of the par 3 competition where it was rumored that he was content to participate in it in a week.

Little information has filtered out of this ultimate recognition, but according to a source from the ESPN site, the five-time winner of the Masters played all 18 holes.

At the end of this breathless day, a photo emerged on social networks. We can see Tiger Woods chipping from the back of the 9th green at sunset. In reality, the photo dates from 2019, the year of the Tiger’s last victory in Augusta.

Tiger’s plane took off again at 11:47 p.m. French time and an hour later the one his fans nicknamed the GOAT (Greatest Of All Time), the greatest player of all time, was at home.

Decision imminent

Will play, won’t play? Apart from his relatives, no one knows at this time what the trend is. The decision should be made within hours or days. Tiger will allow himself time for reflection, mature his decision.

That he was able to walk the 18 holes of Augusta National is reassuring news for those who hope to see him at the start of the Masters next week, but that does not mean that he will be able to do it 4 or 5 times.

We suspect that if it is only a question of enduring the pain Woods is used to it and the chances of seeing him line up are great. On the other hand, let’s be sure that he will not take the risk of aggravating his injury.

This Wednesday morning the name of Tiger Woods is still among the participants.
