This is the Fuengirola-Higuerón Training Center, the most advanced basketball training center

The mayor of Fuengirola, Ana Mulainaugurated last Wednesday afternoon the Fuengirola-Higuerón Training Centera municipally owned pavilion that has involved an investment close to three million euros.

The center is located in the avenue of El Higuerón, has some world-class basketball facilities and it is destined to be the main point of reference for basketball teams from all over the world to carry out their preseasons, qualifying phases for international tournaments, and as a training place for the different clubs of this sport in Fuengirola.

The new sports complex is equipped with the highest and current technology. It consists of two official courts that feature Spalding baskets, that are currently used in the NBA, as well as with first level parquet and NBA, WNBA, NCAA, EUROLEAGUE, ACB, WOMEN’S LEAGUE and FIBA ​​training material, in addition to official 3×3. Likewise, it has gym, transfer area, contrast pools (hot/cold), scoreboards and giant screen (4 x 2 m).And all this in a wonderful enclave with impressive views of the sea from the pitch.

“About two years ago, in the midst of a pandemic, we launched this project to position Fuengirola as the international epicenter of professional basketball training – explained Mayor Ana Mula -. Thanks to the support of Ewo Sport, captained by two world champions of this sport, as they are Berni Rodriguez and Jose Manuel Calderonwhom I thank for their vision and their commitment to the city, decided to erect this Fuengirola-Higuerón Training Center for the local teams of this modality of all categories, professional clubs and international teams to carry out their preparations in this incomparable setting”, explained Ana Mula during her speech.

“We invested about three million euros to create these facilities, which have the best materials, the most up-to-date equipment, and everything the latest in technology so that any team in the world can come here, to Fuengirola, to spend their preseason or concentrations”the mayor has indicated.

The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) approved this equipment, last January, to house the preparations of international teams of this sport. Not in vain, the representative of the Operations Department of this organization, Vardan Petrosyan, certified the quality of its means and facilities for this purpose.

In addition, this same month of March, the Spanish Basketball Federation and the Andalusian Government chose the Fuengirola-Higuerón Training Center to formalize a collaboration agreement to hold sports events, matches and championships in the autonomous community during the next two years. Thus, the new municipal facilities They will become one of the preparation scenarios for the national teams of all categories for their different commitments.

Since it opened its doors, in September of last year, by the Fuengirola-Higuerón Training Center teams of absolute categories of proven level have already passed, such as Real Madrid or UCAM Murcia, and has aroused the interest of other squads, as well as national teams to carry out their preparations on this field.

Likewise, since last October and on a daily basis, more than twenty teams from Fuengirola from all categories have used these facilities to carry out their modernization practices and prepare their competition commitments.

“In short, what we are already achieving, thanks to this clear commitment to quality sport, is that Fuengirola begins to sound in the world as its own brand. A seal of quality that represents the values ​​of an open city, with a broad international vocation and whose well-being standards are highly appreciated”, assured the councilor.

The event was attended by the delegate of the Government of the Junta de Andalucía in Malaga, Patricia Navarroand the former international players and basketball world champions with the Spanish team, Jose Manuel Calderon and Berni Rodriguez, who also run the company that manages the site, owned by the municipality.
