Quin Snyder, possible replacement for Popovich

After learning of the possible withdrawal of Gregg Popovich, the name Quin Snyder is the one that sounds the most like the main candidate to occupy his seat on the bench of the Spursaccording to Mark Stein. Although there are rumors that “Pop” could leave the courts this season, Stein comments that the main idea is to continue one more year to retire at the end of 2022/2023.

At 73 years old and after becoming the winningest coach in the NBA, Popovich could give up his job to Snyder, who is viewed favorably in San Antonio. The Spurs want someone from home and who meets that requirement. Years ago, specifically between 2007 and 2010, the current coach of the Jazz directed the Austin Toros, a subsidiary team of the San Antonio Spurs in the G League.

After serving as an assistant for the Clippers, Sixers, Lakers and Hawks, Snyder packed his bags for Utah to manage the team. After two consecutive negative seasons (38-44 and 40-42), the one from Mercer Island managed to change the direction of the team and since the 2016/17 season they have not missed the playoffs. He is the “conductor” of one of the candidate teams to fight for the Conference Finals, and that is why he likes it so much in Texas.

As a curiosity, Popovich’s winning record came last Friday the 11th in a game against the Utah Jazz. He thus became the coach with the most games won in NBA history (1,336), surpassing Don Nelson with 368 fewer games.
