National team: World champion Khedira reveals detail of the 7-1 win against Brazil – SOCCER NATIONAL TEAM

Stuff for the history books!

Sami Khedira (34) has experienced a lot in his career as a footballer. He sensationally became champion with Stuttgart in 2007 and won the Champions League with Real in 2014. He played with world stars like Cristiano Ronaldo, Gonzalo Higuain and Sergio Ramos, was coached by greats like Carlo Ancelotti, Maurizio Sarri and Jose Mourinho.

And: he won the World Cup with the German national team in 2014. Now Khedira reports in an “ESPN” interview about the exciting cabin speech by the then national coach Jogi Löw (62) in the crazy 7-1 victory in the semifinals against hosts Brazil.

It was 5-0 after 45 minutes between Germany and Brazil. The DFB-Elf almost overwhelmed the hosts. The Brazilian performance was like a blackout. The entire stadium, the whole country fell into a real state of shock. But the German national team did not fall into arrogance. Instead, the team paid respect to the opponent by continuing to play football.

This also has to do with a half-time speech by Löw. Khedira revealed on ESPN: “Löw was the most important thing that day,” he said. “At half-time he said that anyone who makes fun of them (the Brazil national team; editor’s note) or lowers the level of their performance or jokes about a 5-0 lead, he will immediately replace them , and that they will not play the final.”

Plain text announcement!

And further: “He told us that we should take this seriously and respect the Brazilian national team – more than that, we should respect the fans and the country. We’ve had an incredible time here and it’s not over yet. We have to respect them, they are Brazil, we are Germany, we are equal. And maybe in a few years we’ll play them again and they’ll be the ones leading five to zero. So we have to stay humble and respectful and end the game on a good note. That’s why the second half went the way it did.”

Löw’s speech should bear fruit. At the end of the game it is 7:1 for Germany. In the final, the DFB team won 1-0 against Argentina through a goal by Mario Götze (113′) and became world champions for the fourth time.
