Finally! After nearly 100 days, the Major League Baseball (MLB) reached an agreement with the Players Association to end the work stoppage, in fact, there will be important changes in the rules for the 2022 season and here we tell you all the details.
The resolution comes at the right time to avoid the cancellation of games in the Major Leagues and now the campaign is scheduled to start on next thursday april 7just a few days after the original Opening Day that was planned for March 31.
One of the most important changes occurred in the minimum salary of the players, who now it will be 700 thousand dollars and will increase considerably during the five years of the new agreement until reaching 780 thousand dollars in 2026.
Also, the Threshold of the Competitive Balance Tax was agreed at 230 million dollars for 2022 and will reach 244 million in 2026, in addition, there will be a bonus of 50 million dollars to distribute among the best 100 players.
“I am genuinely excited to say that Major League Baseball is back and that we will play 162 games (…) I want to start by offering an apology to our fans, I know that the last few months have been difficult,” said Rob Manfred, commissioner of the MLB.
What will the new MLB rules be?
As if that were not enough, there will be important MLB rule changes for the 2022 season among which the following stand out:
-It will be implemented universal designated hitter.
