Judo training against violence against women

İzmir Municipality Youth and Sports Club and Karşıyaka Soroptimist Club started training women in judo as part of International Women’s Day events on March 8 to defend against possible attempts at violence. The training lasts 3 months.

Karşıyaka Soroptimist Club members and scholars in their judogi outfits walked on the tatami at Celal Atik Sports Hall Judo Hall. The training initiated as part of the International Women’s Day events on March 8 is intended to help women defend themselves against possible attempts at violence.
Ersan Odaman, President of İzmir Municipality Youth and Sports Club, attended the event, and Mesut Kapan, head coach of the club and head of the national judo team, began to teach the techniques used to the members and scholars of the Karşıyaka Soroptimist Club to teach hard defense. The judo training to be given to the members of the association, which represents the first step of the cooperation, will take place two days a week for a total of 3 months.

Aim is to create level playing field
Thanks to the leadership of İzmir Municipality Youth and Sports Club, Karşıyaka Soroptimist Club President Nurdan Koçlular said, “He is affiliated with the International Soroptimist Federation, which has approximately 72,000 members in 121 countries. The Turkish Soroptimist Clubs Federation has 5 clubs in İzmir and 34 clubs in our country. Soroptimists is a global service organization made up of business and professional women who have come together to advocate for equal educational, social and economic rights for women and girls and to enable them to live better lives through the work they do for these purposes. For this reason, we are very happy to have the support of the Municipality of Izmir in our project that we wanted to spread among the women of Izmir by raising awareness of our club members and scientists to prevent violence against women, which we launched on March 8th , International Working Women’s Day. In our project, which we will carry out together with the administration of Izmir City Youth and Sports Club, Club President Mr. Ersan Odaman, General Coordinator of Turkish Judo Federation Mr. Mesut Kapan and the team of coaches will inform our club members about judo (courtesy approval) training and the philosophy and discipline of judo for 3 months. They will provide valuable information,” he said.

Emphasizing that the word “Soroptimist” in Latin means “women who strive for the best”, Ersan Odaman, President of the İzmir Municipality Youth and Sports Club, said: “We have a special event for the International Working Women’s Day on March 8 in the women’s area organized by Friendly City of Izmir. . We have cooperated with Karşıyaka Soroptimist Club. With this activity, women will learn hard defense techniques to protect themselves outside. As an association, our door is open to all women in all sectors. We have a club mentality that gives priority to women and children.”
