Hertha BSC: Felix Magath takes over until the end of the season! – Bundesliga

Hammer in the Bundesliga!

Felix Magath (68) is taking over from Tayfun Korkut (47) and will be head coach of Hertha BSC until the end of the current season. The capital club announced this on Sunday evening.

Sports director Fredi Bobic (50): “Felix Magath’s CV speaks for itself. With him we have found someone who has proven many times over that, with his immense experience as a coach in any sporting situation of his kind and his charisma, he can make the right adjustments to lead us out of our sportingly challenging situation.”

Magath: “I had very clear and open talks with Fredi Bobic. We are all aware of the current sporting situation and I am happy to help Hertha BSC achieve their goal of staying up in the league. What is important now is that everyone is fully focused on the remaining eight games.”

Korkut had only nine points in 13 games (no win in 2022) with the Berliners. After the 2-0 loss in Gladbach on Saturday evening, he was released on Sunday. Korkut had only taken over the team from predecessor Pal Dardai (45) on the 14th matchday.

Magath comes in dire need. Stuttgart’s 1-1 draw at Union put Hertha in 17th relegation spot. The gap to the saving 15th place is two points.

Magath has already shown in the past that he can be a firefighter. He saved HSV, Eintracht Frankfurt, VfB Stuttgart and VfL Wolfsburg from relegation.

Will that also work with Hertha?

It’s been a while since his last coaching job: Magath coached the Chinese club Shandong Luneng Taishan from June 2016 to December 2017.

From January 2020 to March 2021 he was sporting director of Flyeralarm and thus worked as a consultant for Würzburger Kickers and FC Admira Wacker Mödling, among other things.

Magath led FC Bayern to a double in 2005 and 2006, and he won the sensational championship with Wolfsburg in 2009.

Magath is to be introduced as coach at a press conference on Monday at 1 p.m. The first game is the game on Saturday (3.30 p.m.) in the Olympic Stadium against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim.

By the way: The Hertha website collapsed shortly after the Magath earthquake was announced.
