Filippo Armano, fifteen-year-old judoka of the Judokwai Mestre sports association, won the title of Vice-Champion of Italy on Saturday 5 March, away from PalaPellicone in Ostia (Rm), where the 2022 edition of the Italian Judo Championship took place for the Under 18 Cadet category; Armano won the silver medal for the +90 kg category, simultaneously becoming a black belt in judo.

Accompanied by the Benemerito Maestro 5th dan Giampaolo Scagnetto, Technical Director of the association, and by the instructor Nicola Penzo Cavaldoro, Armano climbed the rankings by overcoming his opponents with grit and determination and reaching the final match after consecutive victories. three fights. Only at this point did he have to surrender to the determination of his friend / rival Lorenzo Paradiso of the Judo Club Ronin Catania: the two athletes relived the same exciting final of 2019, then for the Beginners B category, when for the first time they met and Paradiso. won the first place while Armano the second.

Filippo Armano, born in 2006, is however proud of his second position, feeling rewarded for all the efforts made so far. To support him in his race path were present teammates Alessandro Zuanon, Tommaso Fiorin, Riccardo Sambo, Leonardo Bovo and Marta Lazzaro, all winners of the regional qualifications and the first experiences in the national field; then his parents Massimo and Giulia, who support him with passion, and his brother Federico, also a judoka. Armano had access to these 2022 Finals as he was positioned in fourth place on the national ranking list. At the end of the racing weekend, among other things, Armano is confirmed as the only judoka in the Veneto region to have won a medal.

The Judokwai Association is not new to these results; operating in Mestre since 1973, it has repeatedly brought its athletes to the top steps of the podium in national but also international competitions. Thanks to the rich nursery of athletes followed with professionalism and competence by the instructor Andrea Memo, and despite the efforts and problems related to maintaining regular training during the pandemic, the competitive team is always very numerous, prepared and competitive. The party for the prestigious silver medal won by Filippo Armano, a student at the Algarotti Institute in Venice and a passionate judo practitioner, will be held on Wednesday 9 March right in the association’s headquarters, in via Baglioni 14 / aa Mestre.
