Ángela Martínez leads the performance of the young Spanish team with two golds

The young swimmer Angela Martinez became the great star of the Spanish team in the meeting of Edinburghafter closing his performance in the Scottish capital with two gold medals, after winning this Sunday in the final of the 1,500 free.

Martínez, who won with a time of 16:42.27 minutes, her best mark of the season, was 1:11 seconds ahead of the British Fleur Lewissecond with a time of 16:43.38, and in 5 seconds to the also British Ella Dysonwho completed the podium with a time of 16:47.27.

A triumph to which the young woman from Elche, who will turn 18 on March 18, achieved on Saturday in the final of the 800m, in which Martínez won with a time of 8:47.14.

Results that confirmed the progression of the young swimmer from Elche, who last November finished sixth in the final of the 1,500 of the European Short Course Championships held in the Russian city of Boiler.

Ángela Martínez was not, however, the only Spaniard to climb to the top of the podium in Edinburgh, where the man from Granada also shone Carlos Garach17 years old, who added a gold and a silver in the swimming pool of the Royal Commonwealth.

Garach, who won the 1,500 final on Friday with a time of 15:14.01 minutes, his personal best, won the silver medal a day later in the 800 with a new personal best, after swimming in a time of 8:00.99 minutes.

The malagueña also returned from the Scottish capital with a gold Laura Rodriguez, 18 years old, who won this Sunday in the final of the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:29.13 minutes.

The swimmer of Mijas NPPwho has a personal best of 2:27.54, was almost two seconds ahead of the Irish Ellie McCartney, who achieved second place with a time of 2:31.06 minutes.

For its part, Alberto Lozanoachieved on Friday with a time of 23.92 seconds the silver medal in the final of the 50 butterfly, in which the man from Salamanca was only surpassed by the British Ben Proudworld champion in 2017, who won the gold with a time of 23.46.

The Alicante native completed the list of Spanish medalists at the Edinburgh meeting Pedro Sanchez18, who won bronze this Sunday in the final of the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:02.58 minutes.
