Winter Olympics 2022: “Things are improving” for Alexis Pinturault, who will be at the start of the giant

Injured in the right shoulder during a fall on the handset on Thursday, Alexis Pinturault indicated that he would participate in the giant on Sunday and spoke about his state of health. “Day by day, it’s getting better and better, but it’s not ideal, I have discomfort. I feel that things are improving, yesterday was not terrible at all, today is better than yesterday, and I hope that tomorrow will be even better. All these hours, this physio work, is good, ”said the Habs after two training sessions on the giant competition track.

Thursday, the French had fallen heavily during the combined slalom round. He had collapsed in tears in front of the press, faced with his failure and fear that a right shoulder injury would sign the end of his Olympics (giant on Saturday then slalom on Wednesday and mixed team event on February 19).

“I feel pretty good”

“I applied a lot of cold, I took anti-inflammatories and muscle relaxants”, detailed the 30-year-old skier about his medical protocol, without knowing yet if he would resort to an infiltration before the Saturday race. “The shoulder went into a defensive position, and everything contracted, there are different sore muscles and tendons. The goal is to loosen it up a bit and restore mobility, to better move the shoulder. We are trying to drain the hematoma so that it deflates and it bothers me less and less in the amplitudes. »

Alexis Pinturault then confirmed his presence on the giant on Sunday: “I feel pretty good. It could have been worse, the shoulder could have come out completely. I will be at the start of the giant, certainly not in the best mood, but I want to try my luck, ”assured the triple Olympic medalist, including twice in Giant (bronze in 2014 and 2018).
