Upswing to contemplation – Sport

SZ: Sport is…?

Markus Pannermayr: … for me it’s simply the best way to keep finding my inner balance.

Your current fitness level?

I would like to certify myself as “quite decent”, but my children would certainly plead for “expandable”.

Rim upswing or stopover?

I still enjoy swinging myself up, but I’m increasingly aware that it’s tempting to stop off afterwards.

Physical education class was for you?

Definitely better than art education.

Your personal record?

A celebratory event with twelve speeches, but that doesn’t really have anything to do with sport. A mountain hike with the son in the summer of 2019 could be considered: quite a few meters in altitude and about 35 kilometers in length. We didn’t get back to the apartment until well after sunset, but dinner has rarely tasted so good.

Stadium visitors or TV athletes?

With the Straubing Tigers, our powder tower is definitely there – ice hockey only really comes across in the stadium!

Bavaria or sixty?

In fact, blue is my favorite color, but red is definitely red in football.

Your eternal sports idol?

Walter Röhrl – although I’m not a motorsport fan at all. For me he is a real exceptional athlete. I met him a few years ago while mountain biking in the Bavarian Forest. I’ve almost only seen him from behind, he’s still incredibly fit.

A formative experience?

A wonderful day of ski touring on the Sella floor and through the Mittagstal. Also present: an experienced local mountain guide and an excellent brewery manager. With this accompaniment you are prepared for all eventualities!

In which discipline would you be an Olympic champion?

My favorite discipline: at the opening of the Straubinger Gäuboden folk festival, rattling out expensive promises for my homeland from the prominent political speakers.

Which athlete would you like to swap jerseys with?

While I’m feverishly thinking about it, my office manager just calls out “Schweinsteiger” to me. I would give her this pleasure with all my heart!

Under the heading “Formality” the SZ asks people about their affinity for sport every week. Artists, politicians, captains of industry – just no athletes. It would be boring.
